They need a bit of culling still, and I haven't started captioning them, but hopefully people will find some of them interesting.

Date: 2010-09-13 09:14 pm (UTC)I thought "Wow, bad luck to step in *that* rabbit hole," and kept walking on the verge. Several minutes later, I stepped in another similar hole and went down HARD on the same knee again. I then realised that the holes are some sort of regular feature (drainage?) and walked the rest of the way on the road. :-)
That night, while walking down an alley after dinner, I slipped on the wet flagstones and ...wait for it... went down HARD on my right knee again.
I spent more time on one knee in a day than I have in years. Orkney was telling me either that I need to be being more humble or that I need to practice up for a proposal (or a knighthood). My money is on humility...
The weather was amazing. Friday through Sunday it was almost always sunny and warm verging on hot. Monday and Tuesday it was sunny and VERY windy (I found it difficult to walk back from the Ring of Brodgar to the highway because I was bent almost double trying to make headway). Wednesday through Friday it was alternately cloudy with a little rain or partly cloudy, but it never really poured. Thursday evening, in particular, it was beautiful--there was a marvelous rainbow and then sunset, and the harbour and bay at Kirkwall were as smooth as a millpond. Friday the bay was very much *not* calm...
