It's morning, and it's still snowing! Everything has gone from being dusted with sugar to being coated in flour, and now its all simply grown strange and monstrous, like the dressing gown in the Frances story. Monstrous but beautiful. After the first tree I'm worried about more, but I can't help gazing at the landscape in wonder and appreciation.

And the relentlessness of it! It's like Dar Williams' "February"

And then the snow,
And then the snow came, we were always out shoveling,
And we'd drop to sleep exhausted,
Then we'd wake up, and it's snowing.

I may be exhausted and resentful later, but right now it's just so lovely. It reminds me of the Great Snow, when [livejournal.com profile] redactrice and I were away with [livejournal.com profile] john_arundel and [livejournal.com profile] ethanninis_mom and some others, and first shared a hotel room with them on the way back because we could't drive through, and then ended up spending several days living at their house because we couldn't get into our street. Everything today has that same fantastical appearance that the hotel in Thurmont had that first morning, like the dacha in Dr Zhivago.
