I've been meaning to post for a while that a new building went up in the last year on the path I take to work. It's a medical building for a dermatology practice. I'm sure the owner thought it would be cool to put his name on it, but somehow if people are going htere for help with skin problems it seems a poor idea to call it the Rotter Building...

Also, I know there are not enough acronyms for all the things people want to abbreviate. I've known that since I first started web-searching for pages on ASL and got pages on ASL or ASL instead. But today's All Things Considered (or ATC as the call themselves, not to be confused with ATC) had a long article on cognitive behavior therapy and its use in treating depression, especially among teenage girls. Problem is, they kept referring to it as CBT, and that's always meant something very different to me...

Same reason I had to stop and think for a minute at one of my previous employers when told we were required to complete some amount of computer-based training. ;)

Ah, the eternal dilemma of the astronomy grad student and the PMS stars: pre-main-sequence or premenstrual syndrome??

CBT. . . folks are just too lazy to type it all out, or say it. Our brain center have apparently been insufficiently ruggedized.
