There's probably lots I haven't caught up on, but here's a start

One assignment down, another to go: the book report on Weatherford was just one I needed to do this week--tonight and tomorrow morning I need to do one on Rashid Khalidi's "Palestinian Identity" for my Arab-Israeli class. Next week I do a paper and an exam for that course and it will be all done--chalk another one up! Only five more (including the Central Asia one).

The Globetrotter is back! She's relaxing and starting to de-jet lag today; we're getting together for dinner tomorrow night. It will be really nice to see her. :-)

Sunday I'm running a Revolutionary War miniatures game at the shop in Glen Burnie. I'm revisiting the rules my friend Rocky wrote ages ago. I hope the group likes them, as I think they're better for Rev War than the ones by Vincent Tsao based on LFS that I used last time. I have a few Brunswick jaegers and some limbers to paint up for that, but they're well along and I should have them done in plenty of time (Peter--you would be proud! I _pinned_ a wheel onto one of the limbers when the original axle broke off!)

Then after the game--MLS Cup! Our boys, of course, are not there, but it will be fun to watch the LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake punch it out.

Ta da! I've passed my 50 book limit!

50/50: The Water Devil by Judith Merkle Riley. I found this at B&N the other day and was delighted. For some reason that I don't recall, it was published ages ago in an obscure edition and had never been republished. It's another book in her series about Margaret of Ashbury, a 14th century woman with a very tumultuous life. In this book, she and her second husband have to help his father win a lawsuit over a parcel of land, while staving off grasping monks, unscrupulous lawyers, and possibly some supernatural forces at work. I hope it's at least a half-decent portrayal of period life; it's certainly engaging, fun, and suspenseful.

Work is going OK. I made stovies last weekend that I'm finishing off the last of tonight for dinner--delicious neeps, swedes, tatties, and carrots with some stew beef and herbs. I had half a baguette that I'd got several weeks before at Trader Joe's that was rock hard, but in true 18th century frugal fashion I sliced it into sippets and it was excellent at soaking up the broth. No more of that left, but I have some Nairn's oatcakes I may have with a little Rose's lime marmalade for afters (I've been having Jello cups lately--only 10 calories each!--but I feel like a splurge!)

OK, time to go...

Where in Glen Burnie will you be? And when? And for how long? It's just the next town over from Pasadena. I have to be in Baltimore City until ~3 in the afternoon, but if the nature of your game would permit a break at some point I might be able to drop by.
