Yes :-) If you ever make it to the Golden Temple (ahem, boast boast) they're very friendly and it's a beautiful place to visit. (Though I must admit that that's partly, only partly, because you don't get endlessly pestered and hassled there like you do everywhere else in India.)
I applaud the man's spirit. I used to work with a New York woman, very nice she was and full of good-humoured common sense, but she thoroughly believed that the only right and proper thing to do at Christmas was never to mention the C-word but instead send people "Happy Holidays" cards. To do anything else would be basically racist, she insisted. I never did see the logic of that and I still don't see why some religious celebrations should be less equal than others just because they're more popular. It's not as if New York is so seething with religious hatred that it's on the brink of a brutal sectarian civil war, and one has to tread very carefully in order not to set the whole situation alight? (Is it?)
