a nice day for biking
Mar. 31st, 2007 03:27 pmNeta and I had a very pleasant late dinner last night and went to sleep early (for us). She went off this morning to hang out with some of her friends and then play and referee some soccer. I went off to the farmers' market with Mel and got various yummy things, came home and ate some of them, and watched some old eps of Ballykissangel. After that I fiddled about with Mapquest for a while looking for towns that are roughly partway between Baltimore and DC, then went out for a ride, the first one since the beginning of February.
It's a lovely day out, and there were a fair number of people on the trail, plus a lot of folks out doing a creek cleanup, which was very nice. I went down the CCT to the basebell field off 236 and then came back, about 5.5 miles. It was glorious to be out, but I can tell I'm a bit out of condition (what little I had :-) and need to get back to riding more often now that the weather is nice(r). That's actually another thing to add to the list when apartment-hunting: good trails nearby.
I ddin't see any wildlife to speak of, and only a few birds (robins and the like), but it *is* the middle of the day. There've been scads of cardinals and juncos and doves and sparrows around the feeder, which has been lovely for me and the cats.
As for looking at towns, there are a few that are sort of in between, but I know nothing about them (Burtonsville, Fulton, Ashton, Hihgland, Sandy Spring, Olney) and the only one I recognise (Laurel) doesn't have anything that I know of to recommend it. I have a vague recollection of it being a bit of a havey-cavey place. When N and Bryan and I were talkign the other night, Columbia came up but was voted down as too awful and New Town-ish. And if we were to pick some place totally in between, we would be equally far from all of our friends. I'm inclinded to do somethign in the DC suburbs or the Baltimore suburbs, just so we'll be close to at least some chums. Catonsville has that to recommend it, since Bryan is there, and it's also quite close to where N needs to go.

Date: 2007-04-02 08:09 pm (UTC)Yes Columbia is "New Town-ish", but it has a range of accamadation, it's between DC and Baltimore, on several direct routes, and has trails.
There is a trail in Catonsville, I of course only drive by it so I can not tell you anything about it.

Date: 2007-04-02 08:18 pm (UTC)One potential problem I can see is finding someone to rent to someone with many cats. Most of the pet-friendly places I've seen in a quick look at listings are OK with *two* cats. :-(
