Very nice day. Went for a short bike ride to start off (~4 miles). Farmers' market and some other errands later in the morning with Chris. We both did a few odds and ends of things when we got home, then some chores (C swept the leaves off the roof and cleaned the gutters; I swept my boardwalk and the back deck), birthday pressies for C (I am glad to report that after nearly two decades, I still manage to amuse her; she claims it's because she's a cheap laugh :-), then dinner at a local Japanese restaurant and a trip to the movies ('The Queen', which we both thought was exceptionally good).

I'm going to make some tea, then curl up in bed with a book and enjoy the cool air that is gradually arriving. I'd like to write a bit about the movie, but right now I'm sleepy and want some reading time before I zonk out.

The Queen is fantastic. I saw it a couple of months ago, and have been waiting for someone else to see it ever since!

I'd just recently read a piece from the New Yorker, an interview with/bio of Mirren, and it was interesting to see the movies wit that in mind.

Chris said, and I agreed, that the film was well done in many ways, particularly in the way that it didn't seem to 'take sides', just show everyone's perspectives. There were some very disagreeable characters (Prince Phillip and Cherie Blair must not appreciate the way they're depicted), but both Blair and the Queen, though motivated by totally different world views, are very appealing characters.

And of course I loved the landscape of Glen Feshie, where they did a lot of the outdoor "Balmoral" shooting.
