Date: 2005-12-06 11:16 pm (UTC)I have this vague feeling that you couldn't have been on Skye without having been into my shop ...

Date: 2005-12-06 11:53 pm (UTC)And I wish I had had more of a chance to talk to you at the feis. There was quite a crowd around you (no surprise! :-) including someone I assumed was your stócach (do I have the right word?), and I didn't want to be a pest, so I admired the incredible view from the upper balcony out across the sound instead. :-)

Date: 2005-12-07 12:17 pm (UTC)I was in such a tizzy that evening (was the the concert where there were two adorable children singing before the act started? I did three concerts, and they're all running together in my mind ... if that was right, then those two kids belogned to my main teacher from last year, who was standing in the doorway with his arms folded staring at me as I stuttered my way through the Gàidhlig introductions ... he's the nicest man in the world, but eeeeeee, scary!!), I can barely remember anything about afterwards -- the guy you're thinking of was probably my friend Colin, whom I managed to delight by forgetting to translate half of what I said towards the end (in the thank-yous) to English - he thought I shouldn't have bothered with English in the first place ("If you go to a concert in France, you don't go to hear them announce everything in Enlish, no matter how little French you have!"). And as for "stócach" - you've taught me a new word! :) It's actually Irish (Gaeilge) - but the two language are so close, I'm sure there's a Scottish cognate that i just haven't learned yet :) The common Gàidhlig for boyfriend is "bràmair" or "leannan" (I prefer "leannan," which just basically means sweetheart) ... but no, whomever he was, he wasn't my leannan :)
Shame we didn't get a chance to chat -- I always love speaking to folks from home, but particularly when we've got as much to chat about as you and I seem to have!
So yes, next time you and I are on Skye at the same time, you should pop into my whisky shop and I'll give you the full tasting (in Gàidhlig, if you want -- I've even got Gàidhlig for "unchilfiltered," as all our whiskies are :)

Date: 2005-12-09 05:51 am (UTC)I will make certain to stop in at The Gaelic Whiskies then, the next time I'm on An t-Eilean Sgitheanach! If I can save up (money, but more importantly leave) that will be in March, otherwise probably next summer.
