Saturday last I drove up to Carlisle, PA for [livejournal.com profile] bidger's wedding. The drive was lovely, the ceremony was brief (the minister--who had a soul patch!?--raced through his remarks the vows at a rather unbecoming pace) and rather sweet (two very cute toddlers sreading rose petals), and the reception was wonderful. It was held at their house out in the country, which I hadn't seen before; I can understand why Aaron seems to have migrated up there semi-permanently (in the past he talked about hem moving down to Reston, but I overheard him say to someone at the reception that he'd be "keeping" his place down here "for the moment" :-) Twenty-some acre house and lawns, plus a 76-acre piece of farmland that they lease out to a local farmer. Lovely big rambling house, perfect for Krista's two cute daughters (one of them was one of the rose-petal girls) and their nine cats and two dogs. :-) And several chicken coops outside. And... :-) THey have some very nice friends who I got to meet during the course fo the evening. Delicious food and drink (Aaron had a hand in the bar selection, clearly, since there was Boddington's). I was going to spend the night in town at a hotel (even booked a room), but since people were coming the next day for gaming and the reception ended up tapering off around 8.30pm (the wedding had been at 2pm), I just drove home.

And Sunday was Games Day!
I got up early enough to do a fair bit of cleaning (vacuum most of the apt., clean the kitchen and bathroom, tidy all the detrius out of the way). Bryan, Carol K., Nicholas B. (and his young son Micah, 4 months), [livejournal.com profile] redactrice and [livejournal.com profile] shy_kat, and a new chap, Darrell (who I had met through a local gaming Yahoo group) participated. We played Liberte, an odd game Carol brought called Why Did The Chicken, and possibly something else (it gets a bit fuzzy). Carol and Bryan and I ordered Chinese and talked and watched some Coupling episodes, and I actually got to bed early. And the place is still clean! (I ate way too much junk food and drank far too much beer and soda, though...) Darrell is defintely a keeper--happy to play Euro games, but a wargamer at heart and a liberal too! (he was very funny about how happy he was to arrive and see the Kerry yard sign and the Human Rights Campaign bumpersticker--it's true, lots of wargamers tend to be pretty conservative types...) I'm glad I thought to advertise on the other local game lists!

Tonight is Escalation League with the Iron Fist lads; hopefully my Eldar can rack up at least one win (but I'm not holding my breath...)

Eventually I'll be back out there for games. Speaking of wargames, played Victory in the Pacific on Saturday - it's been ages, managed to not be too badly trounced.

The fuzzy bit in your memory was Ninja Burger (which I enjoyed thoroughly), unless you and Bryan and Carol played something else after I departed.

Thanks for the day. It was tres fun.

I thought you had decided it wasn't a good weekend for games day. Ah well. I'm really glad I went to visit my friend's cats and was able to free Hazel and that was an hour away in the opposit direction, so I probably couldn't have done both anyway.

I am really impressed that you still have a Kerry sign in your yard. A diehard after my own heart, though all I can boast is that I still have his bumper sticker on my car. :-)

Lovely to see the VA gubernitorial election result tonight. Poor Jerry Kilgore--he was so automotonically programmed that for the rest of his life whenever anyone asks him any question--like "And how would you like that cooked, sir?" he'll reflexively answer in his irritatingly whiny voice (non-residents should picture Barney Fife sans the charm or the pretense of masculinity) "I am the only candidate who has committed himself to widening I-66 inside the Beltway."
