Feb. 15th, 2011 11:28 pmThere are a lot of good television serials, shows with skillful writing, or clever plots, stand-out acting or inspired casting.
There are few enough that have more than one of those things, and only occasionally do I come across one that has them all, and in addition has something behind it all--not just a well thought-out and fully realized story arc but a vision, and ability to see human beings in all their pain and glory. To show us, in short, ourselves--to "hold a mirror up to nature".
For me, In Plain Sight is one of these rare shows. Its regular ensemble actors are brilliant, and they've been supplemented with some of the best talent appearing on American screens today. It does comedy without being campy, drama without being hokey, and it moves from one to the other as if they were, well, the essential and interwoven elements of daily life that they truly are.
If you haven't watched it, I suggest you give it a try. They've run three seasons so far, and a fourth is premiering in May.
