I've been bothereed lately by my tendency to wake up earlier than I really want to and be unable to go back to sleep. It's not insomnia; I can get by on only ~6-7 hours of sleep. But it's a bit frustrating if I make a point of going to sleep at 10.30 so as to get *more* sleep to then wake up at at 4.45, as happened once recently.

But today I went to sleep between 12.00 and 12.30, woke up just before 6...and went back to sleep for two hours! And I had some very vivid dreams, too.

Now, ideally I'd like to shift that all back an hour or two. But I'm very pleased that this worked. Getting back in bed, relaxing, and (at least in this case) trying to recall very peaceful memories did the trick.

Oh, and closing the windows. Not because of the chill, but because of the flipping great helicopter that was flying around the area, low and slow. It wasn't a medevac, the way most are this near tot he hospital. And I didn't see any searchlights. But it was very loud.
