Nothing involving cable is ever easy.
I decided to switch to Verizon from RCN, because the Verizon rates are much lower.
Well, of course the rates they advertised are not available. And, yes, I could argue and threaten and whatever, but that wouldn't get me what I want, so I took the higher, but still much lower than RCN rates.
Well, the guy came out to install (quite a nice fellow--we spent a good deal of time talking), and the order he had didn't match the order I had placed. A lot of telephones calls ensued.
Finally everything got settled, and he left.
I started learning how to work the new TV control and interface. The DVR didn't seem to be workign right.
So I called the tech support number. Turns out that the set-top box I got doesn't have DVR functionality. Despite the menus talking about DVR. Turns out that the online help person who advised me about my order assured me that Package A included a DVR when it didn't. I had budgeted for a DVR, but because I got bum advice, I ordered the wrong package.
So the tech support handed me off to the order department, who tried to get a DVR-capable STB shipped to me (after checking that I felt I could install it myself, which I do). They said there would be a post-free label in the box so I could send back the DVRless STB.
But they are the overnight order department, so they couldn't get me the box without canceling my whole order, replacing it, and hitting me with a cancellation fee (which they were as eager to avoid charging me as I was to be charged).
So now I have to call back the regular order department tomorrow.
*sigh*
And I still have to call and cancel the RCN service...
