can we sink further?
Mar. 6th, 2008 02:04 pmMy friend JRC passed this on to me under the heading of "a new low".
My take? We already know they will do anything to win. Implying he's a Muslim (and that there's something wrong with that) and hinting that he's a "closet" African (as if there was something wrong with that), making him appear more black than he is...
I think that playing the "remember Monicagate!" card is just a rallying cry to the hard-core Clintonistas. Sure, most people feel like Ken Starr and the impeachment hearings went too far, but I think most people also believe that Bill Clinton had an affair with a very impressionable, much younger woman who was employed in a very junior role by his office and then lied to Congress and the nation about it. He made the presidency a laughingstock, like something out of a Restoration comedy. Is that really what the Clinton campaign wants to bring up again? Sure, Hilary was an injured party in that, but she also got a huge pair of horns on national television night after night (doubtless has quite the closetful by now). That's hardly what I would think she would want on peoples' minds right now. We might as a well start a new reality TV show and call it "Where's Bill's Todger?"...
Clinton spokesperson Howard Wolfson, on a conference call with reporters just now, drew an intriguing comparison between Obama and a somewhat-forgotten figure who is still deeply hated by Democrats. He said, "When Senator Obama was confronted with questions over whether he was ready to be Commander-in-Chief and steward of the economy, he chose not to address those questions, but to attack Senator Clinton. I for one do not belive that imitating Ken Starr is the way to win a Democratic primary election for president."
