it is cold out!
Jan. 25th, 2007 10:57 pmI love the cold. But, boy, is there a lot to love tonight!
The wind was pushing my windsocks around and clattering the windchimes, so after dinner and some TV, I went to sit outside. My fleece was not enough. I came back in and added another fleece. Not enough. I came back in and grabbed my jacket. Still cold/
Now, let me tell you about this jacket. I love it.
redactrice gave it to me and I treasure it because it's from her and because it is tougher than anything, including me. Because it's me-sized, thick leather, and lined, it weighs roughly as much as those lead vests they put on you at the dentist when they take an X-ray, to keep your body from absorbing all the radiation meant for your teeth. But it wasn't enough.
I was still cold. So I went back and got my wooly Aran hat. I put on my NorthFace gloves. And plenty of heat was still leaking out of my botom half, because I only had a pair of boxers and heavy jeans on. Two layers? You godda be kidding. Three or four layers is the minimum tonight. 20-some degrees (that's -5 for you Celcius people). But a glorious night.
I love looking in lighted windows at night. My own are no exception. It's cool to see other people's houses and imagine what they are like, or what it might be like to live there. But it's also nice to look in your own windows, see the warm home you have waiting for you, the confused cats ("Why is he standing in the Out? It's COLD! And blowy!"), the cozy surroundings, the comfy bed calling you... All so familiar, all so comfortable. I have a lovely home here. I will be sorry to leave it.
But the wind and the night and the cold are wonderful.
Maybe I'll slip out for one more minute...
