Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] geekchick!

I know you have mixed feelings about it, but I wish you well nonetheless :-)

Just an alert/reminder that Saturday week (April 30th) will be the monthly iteration of Games Day at Highland Lane. Just squeaking in under the wire before the month runs out, but it turned out to be the only day available.

Boardgames of all shapes and sizes abound; the house has Settlers, various versions of Carcassonne, plus Carolus Magnus, Tigris and Euphrates, Puerto Rico, and dozens more "German" games and more hardcore historical titles (though an afternoon match of War In Europe is probably not practical). Miniature gaming space is also available. Rocky has offered to run a multiplayer Hearts of Oak (age of sail miniatures) game, as well as a skirmish using his Duel Brawl and Skirmish (swashbuckling) rules, if either of those would appeal to the masses.

Doors open around 11 and close when we're exhausted and turf people out. Lunch is provided, though contributions to the larder and the cellar are gratefully appreciated. RSVP where this notice is posted.

A 35-year-old fan suffered broken bones and other injuries last night when he fell from a concourse ramp inside Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium after the Washington Nationals baseball game, authorities said.

The man was "horsing around" with friends on the ramp on the south side of the stadium near Gate A when he fell at least 20 feet about 9:30 p.m., said Tony Robinson, a spokesman for the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission, which oversees RFK.

I've spent years going up and down those ramps, and how you could manage to fall off one is beyond me. The guy must have been very drunk and very stupid. But I hope he recovers quickly. :-/

My friend Jeff latched onto my mention of War in Europe and suggested that it might be possible to set up the game in my basement (all the attractivness and airy light of a Todt bunker, but relatively safe from cats) and play it over a couple of weekends. Anyone else interested? It would probably take a couple of us...

[livejournal.com profile] brithistorian saw this, which I shared with my LJ-less friend Nick, who came up with this.

Lots of people out there with time on their hands...
