Incense for the Shichifukujin
Jun. 9th, 2004 08:06 amYou watch my life without comment
I respect you without worship
A symbol of the divine because I need some symbol
But a symbol that conveys my inability to decide
What I truly believe
Last night I gave you incense
Offering without asking
Asking without hoping
Hoping without expectation
Expecting only that which I believe I already have
Ebisu, god of fishermen, god of food
I am replete
Thank you for your bounty
Bishamon, god of good cheer, god who protects the valiant
May I be brave in meeting my fate
May I celebrate joy with a high heart
Benten, goddess of poetry and music
Help me win the heart of your disciple
Goddess of love, help me to write what will move the heart of one who worships at your altar
Jurojin the Scholar, carrying the wisdom of the world
Wine and women and scholarship
I love the deer who walks beside you
You are my favourite god.
Hotei, jolly fat man, mendicant, wanderer, god of good chance
Already you have blessed me with good fortune
Thank you for your laughter
Fukurokuju of the big head, god of wisdom and long life
Guide my steps
So that I may use the experience you have granted me well
Daikoku, lord of artisans and craftsmen
God of joy through wealth
I have what I need to be happy
Thank you for your gifts.
