Queen of Wands

The thing Seamus forgets, momentarily, is that Kestrel lives with her friend Shannon and Shannon's husband Felix, who is Kestrel's ex. :-)

Personal validation, even if it's just from a comic strip, is fulfilling :-)

I checked with the place I was supposed to pick up one of the kegs for the tailgate I'm running tomorrow (our club has a deal with Foggy Bottom brewers, whereby they give us a keg for free for each one we buy). I was having trouble even getting a number to call the store, because no one in our office has a phone book, because they just Google, but we have an "alcohol" filter on our web browsers so we can't see any websites that involve selling beer or wine. Thank goodness for Google's website caches.

But when I got through to Total Beverage (now Total Wine and More) who the FB rep had advised me to call, they said that they don't carry FB and it would take SEVERAL WEEKS to get a keg as a special order.

OK, now I'm panicking. I've emailed the rep back, explaining that we're expectedin over 100 people and that the one keg they're delivering will not be enough. If they want me to buy from Total, they're going to have to fix something up quick, otherwise I'm going to call some other distributor.

This would explain why this hilarious-looking movie I've seen previews for half a dozen times has never actually appeared at any of the theaters I've seen the previews in.

Sometimes those of us not directly involved forget how fooked up the film business can get. Then something like this comes along to remind us...

A very cool rant from the [livejournal.com profile] starcrossedlady. Not new, but I only just came across it, and I liked it.

...a specific idea now making the rounds on Beacon Hill, a bill that would take the state out of the marriage business by creating civil unions for heterosexual and homosexual couples alike.

Under the proposal, the state would issue licenses for civil unions, with identical rights and benefits, for both heterosexual and homosexual couples, while churches, synagogues, and other religious institutions would perform marriage ceremonies. Clergy members could officiate at the marriage of any couple they choose. That system would let religious groups that object to gay marriage refuse to perform the ceremony.

The article goes on to suggest its unlikely the bill will go anywhere, but at least some legislators are on theball!
