There's a film adaptation of The Gun which is distinctly mediocre as I recall but perhaps good for comedy value (stars Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, and Sophia Loren). Directed by Stanley Kramer, who was no slouch.
IMO, Rifleman Dodd (or Death to the French as it was orginally known) is where Cornwell got the idea for the Sharpe novels. CSF is the better writer, though. :-)
