"Emergency! Emergency! There's an emergency going on." *pause* "It's still going on."

I should have a Red Dwarf icon to go with that subject line...

I was curious as to what declared national emergencies are still in force (according to USC 50, any time the president declares a national emergency, he has to renew that declaration every year, or it automatically expires. DNEs can also be explicitly ended by the president or Congress.) Read more... )

Wallace and Gromit spook island

Posters for the new Wallace and Gromit film on a south coast island will not feature the word "rabbit" because of a local superstition.

Because burrowing can cause landslips in quarries, residents of Portland, Dorset, instead call the creatures underground mutton or furry things.

Posters for the new film, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, on Portland do not use the word, to respect local folklore.

Which Dorothy Dunnett character are you?

Janet Beaton
You lucky thing: you're Janet Scott. There's not a
better, more admirable character to be found in
all of Ms. Dunnett's writing. You're loyal,
intelligent and beneath your exterior
gruffness, you have a core of kindness. Some
people may be put off by your outspokenness but
people of sense value you above all others.
Your friends cherish you, even if they're a
little afraid to tell you so.

yeah, well, let's try this again

I've been trying to post an entry for about half an hour now. And, of course, the signal that I could finally get through was the whole page reloading and all of my entry being gone, even when I back-paged. >:-p

So, anyone interested in seeing some soccer towards the end of October? DC United will have one, maybe two playoff games at home. I'm about to order tickets for these; anyone else want to join me? $46 for two matches plus a free long-sleeved t-shirt (black, with some variety of DC United logo) "Premium" seats (i.e., mid-level elevation, not too far from the half line).

the president in the Texas Air National Guard

No, not that one.

This one.

OK, he's not president *yet*. And he's not even a real person, if you want to be picky about it.

But I think he would be a damn sight better than the one we've got now. And you can't beat that handle.

"Badger" for President! :-)

Many thanks to my friend Andy L. for the vidcap!
