Another amazing dinner from
shy_kat and a fun game of Entdecker afterwards. Plus highly entertaining conversation... My roomies are hilarious. :-) I won't say more than that...
BTW, the new Fox show "Over There" truly sucks. I was really hoping for something better from Steve Bochco.
He's done some great work over the years, but this is just awful: unconvincing plot, hackneyed characters with fewer dimensions than a John Wayne hero, manipulative writing and camera work... I watched most of the pilot a week or two back but gave up before the end; it was just too cloying and trite. I saw the advert just now and was struck by how much better the trailer is, with Seal's "Love's Divine" crooning out over action shots, brief glimpses of the characters looking introspectively at the camera, into the distance, at the ground... if only the show was half as good as the preview.
Compared to what I'm watching while I fold laundry, the second season of "Rescue Me", "Over There" is like skim milk next to, if not cream, at least whole milk. Yes, RM features over-the-top improbable circumstances and a steady diet of sex to keep the flagging... interest up, but the characters are fully realized, complex people with faults and blemishes and appeal and sympathy. The writers don't try to tell you everything there is to know about them in a five-second dialogue and a nickname. "Rescue Me" may not be (IMO) as good as "The Wire" or "The Sopranos" but it's certainly as good as "Six Feet Under" or "Battlestar Galactica" or British shows like "Red Cap" or "McCallum".
