I will freely admit I've been getting this wrong all my life. I knew about the difference in meaning; I just didn't know about the difference in spelling.

On an unrelated note: Gilbert finds blown soap bubbles interesting but disturbing. Nicholas just finds them interesting.

I had always assumed desert was the same for both the arid place and the goodies at table. I didn't realize that goodies at table has two s's.
