Thanks to wcg for this link to a Time gallery of US Marine women in Afghanistan. Props to the Marine Corps for being so smart in their use of female Marines to interact with the women and children in a population where male soldiers doing that would cause problems. And my admiration for these young women knows no bounds. Serving in the line in a war zone is tough, grindingly hard, sometimes scary work. Doing that as a woman in the Marine Corps in Afghanistan... truly nothing in the rest of life should be difficult, compared to what they are dealing with now.

I'm at the stove cooking.

I turn around.

Phineas is at the water bowls (new ones, which I got to replace the ones he regularly tipped over, which I got to replace the fountain that continually got jammed up with cat hair and spit--not, I'm not kidding--so that it overflowed).

He is SCOOPING THE WATER out on the floor.

Not dipping his paw in to get it wet.

Not splashing the water so as to see it ripple.

SCOOPING, the way he does in the litter box, all the water out on the floor.


From now on, the bowls go in the bath tub.

I am getting sick of this.
