DC United playoff game--come watch!

DC United are playing this evening in NJ, but we have a second playoff match next Saturday night as well, as part of the home-and-away aggregate series. Come see us whomp the NJ Metrostars and head to the conference final and a chance at our first MLS Cup since 1999! It will probably also be DC's last home game before baseball returns to RFK!

Seats with the Screaming Eagles supporters Club in their all-standing, all-singing bouncy section sure to get you on TV are $25, complete with friendly local guide and song sheet so you can sing along. We also have a tailgate (organized by your truly) before the game for only $8, with unlimited beer, burgers (beef and Boca), and soda/water.

I'm intrigued (having tried to budget for beer and food for Morris dancing events) - how does the unlimited supply work?
Is this a version of the loaves and fishes trick? ;-)

We figured out about the most that the average person is going to eat, worked out what that would cost, and charge a bit more than that to cover wastage and supplies that don't work out on a per-person basis (charcoal, cleaning supplies, etc.) Then we bump the price up a little more for folks who are guests, rather than members, so as to encourage folks to join the club.

I've been keeping track of our "sales" and costs and nunbers served and so far this season it works out to just over $5 per head, about what we budgeted to start with. We're running a recipts minus sales deficit of about $200-250 for the season, but most of that is due to one midday game we decided to do a tailgate for, against my better judgement, which almost no one came to.

We have a deal with a local brewer who supplies us with a half keg of beer for each half keg we buy. We have to buy through a retail supplier, and most people around here don't stock them as a regular thing, so there have been some problems, but it's worked out well for us. I thought originally we were going to have to eat the cost of the beer as a hospitality for club members expense, but the numbers above *include* the cost of the beer we've bought, so we're doing pretty well!

Now I understand. Buying beer by the keg certainly makes a difference, and it good that you have the deal with the brewer.
I'm interested in comparative weights and measures.
When I last bought beer by the keg I had a choice of a 9-gallon or an 18-gallon size. (Imperial gallons of course) That's 10.8 or 21.6 US gallons by my calculation. How does that compare with your half-keg?

Our half-keg (I think technically it's a half-barrel, but all the folks in the store call it a half-keg) is 15.5 US gallons.
