bikeness and birds

OK, three days in a row, good. Still only little baby trips, about two miles at a time, but that is what I have time for, and it's what I'm up to, so I need to content myself with that and work my way up.

It was nice out this morning, cold but clear and not too windy. I saw a couple of robins, some sparrows (song sparrows?), and a red-bellied woodpecker! She (I think, since it was heavily grey) was working on a tree right over the trial where I was riding. She stopped tapping, but sang for a bit while I was sitting listening and watching. The call didn't sound to me as it's described in my wee desk bird book (Stoke's Beginner's Guide to Birds), but then I can never make heads or tails of their song descriptions anyway.

I've seen cardinals and bluebirds and mourning doves around here, plus probably a couple of different sorts of cardinals.

looking out my window at snow

Just saying' even wee flurries make more sense for February than 60*F+ and warm breezes...

Oscars

The Oscars are coming up. For my "what have I seen" LJ post, I wanted to look back not at the best picture awards but (because I love a good story and good writing) at the best screen play awards. Here they are! )
