Bike ride this morning, very pleasant. Five and a half miles on the county trail from the park on Prosperity. Had my first spill onto a hard surface; turning around on the tarmac at the other end of the ride, I slipped and went sideways onto the ground, hitting my left knee, my right ankle (outside of both--how do you do that?), and brusing my palms. Glad I was wearing jeans.

On the other hand, when I got up I saw a redwing blackbird fly through a meadow and rest in a tree over a stream. And I got to ride through some beautiful sun-swept woods, see and hear many birds, ride over a laughing stream (several times, since the trail follows the stream), and see a very pretty woman out running. It's cool and breezy and just a nice day to be alive.

OK, time for shower and breakfast!

I did not know chimpunks could climb trees.

I don't know why it had never occured to me that they might. They do look a little like wingless flying squirrels.

Nicholas could probably have told me. I'll bet he watches them for at least four hours a day...

Forgot to mention that when I was cycling back to the car park this moring, I saw a fox cross the trail! From several dozen yards away, it looked healthy (i.e., not like the mange-y fox I saw in our neighborhood a couple of months ago).

Then when I got up to where it had crossed, hoping but not expecting to see it about, there was a grey and white cat there, looking around as if it had lost something!

I suggested to the cat that it not linger, as it would probably not be a good idea for it to meet that fox it was smelling!

Edit: This post was inspired by forest's post of this link to pictures of lovely beasts!
