Nora watch

Very good news! N actually got *hungry* yesterday and _ordered Chinese food_. And ate it! And was happy! As I was saying to her later on the phone, I could recall exactly the point in the flu when I was able to actually eat a handful of saltines: they tasted like ambrosia. And then, a day or two later, they stopped tasting like anything but slightly stale, tasteless crackers, and I knew I had (mostly) recovered.

So she's doing a lot better, though nowhere near recovered yet. And that, in turn, means I'm much happier.

I'm also enjoying chatting with Karl M ([livejournal.com profile] vikingcat), one of N's very dearest friends and (yay!) a fellow wargamer. Turns out I may have found someone to play Downtown with, a game I've owned for a while because it covered a topic I was interested in learning more about, but which I haven't yet had a chance to play.

In other news, my reenacting unit is having it's annual meeting today, so [livejournal.com profile] redactrice and I are trekking up to Baltimore to attend. This is probably not going to be a really happy event, as our primary impression (Highland Scots infantry of the French and Indian and Revolutionary Wars) has been hemorrhaging members over the last few years, to the point that most of us still doing it are thinking of decamping to another, larger group. Chris is taking a sabbatical from reenacting anyway, to spend more time with [livejournal.com profile] shy_kat and do more things that they share an interest in. The group the lads are thinking of moving off to is, in fact, an offshoot of our group (Muskets of the Crown --warning! site plays electronic bagpipe music!) that's based out of eastern PA. Chris and I were members of that group as well for a little while and have several friends there. If I end up with them, I'll have to wear a funny hat and *gasp* shave off the beard when I'm out with them.

good meeting

Well, we got one surprise at the meeting: one of our members had been in touch with the group we were thinking of migrating to, and had been told they were not accepting new members! Apparently *they* did such a good job of recruiting last year that they have their hands full training up all the new guys they've found.

With that news, and a certain amount of hemming and hawing, and with some persuasion from the one infantryman who really doesn't want the unit to split up, we agreed to go on for one more year and see what happens. For my part, I pointed out that we've said that ever year for the last couple, and I mentioned that I would probably be less likely to be out at events this year (no matter what else is going on in my life, I have too many hobbies, and not knocking myself to get to half a dozen events a year sounds kind of nice). I agreed to be VP (a job that our by-laws require but that has no duties or responsibilities :-) and found someone else to take on being quartermaster (so the dozen boxes and bales that went into the car today stayed in MD), so all in all I'm pretty happy with how it all went.

hooray!

N is feeling much better; she's been up and about today, and she sounds much more like her old self. There's still a ways to go yet, but she's clearly on the mend. I'm thrilled! :-)
