I'm sure they must have a People's Assembly for Empowering the Environment that fights against clean air and water standards and a Workers' Health and Safety Cooperative Movement that ensures that businesses don't have to actually pay to protect their workers from their manufacturing processes or give them health- or child care.

I love that in a recent discussion I had with one of those "jam tomorrow" libertarians, he asserted that Hong Kong was one of the only true capitalist systems in the world (his contention was that all the others are not really capialtist at all, but "cronyist"). Conscious that my actual knowledge of HK economics was restricted to (a) 20 years a go and (b) seen through James Clavell's semifictional lens, knowing I didn't want to bother looking up the actual details, and fairly sure in any case that even if I did there was no way I would convince him that the real world didn't interesect with his fantasy world, I just left it. Imagine my amusement to be told that the HK tax structure currently does all the things he was arguing vehemently *agaisnt*...
