A year or two ago I came across the US Fish & Wildlife Service Patuxent Research Refuge. It has three sections: north, south, and centre.
The south is big, has some simple trails and a big nature centre (IIRC, it's the head of the Service's wildlife programme).
The centre section is closed to the public and is used for actual research.
The north section is smaller, but much less popular (and hence quieter). I like to go there when I can (hasn't been often enough in the last year). One has to work around hunting seasons, when the area may be closed to non-hunters or restricted, and you have to be a *little* careful (it used to be part of Ft Meade's firing range, and there are at least possibly a few pieces of UXO lying around--I've never seen one). But it's very nice and has a pile of roads and trails for walking and biking (and driving, if you want) and some more trails that are walking-only.
The shorter bit of road leading from the check-in station is 2.5 miles long, the longer 6 miles. Plus the rideable trails are probably another couple of miles at least.
Sure! I'd be glad of some company. I've no specific plan, but maybe the 23/24th?
