wow!

I got onto the Royal Oak Foundation's spam list somehow, I think because I bought my mum a membership at one point.

They are currently advertising an eight-day tour of five stately homes in Hampshire and Sussex, preceded by two nights and a posh dinner in London. Total price? $6,150 (a $300 discount from the operator's normal price).

All of the houses are normally open to the public (one is a country-house hotel and another is a National Trust property). The tutelage by the pet historian who comes along must be pretty special for this to be worth $600+/night!

Life in the world of retail lunacy

I remember people like this, back when I had a customer-facing job. Apparently they're still out there...

OK, that I really didn't need.

Call from the quack following up on yesterday's bloodtests. My cholesterol is still too high--he's recommending statins for that. And he thinks I'm showing signs of diabetes: my fasting glucose level is very high, and my A1C level (a long-term measure of blood sugar) is right at the limit (he says it's over the recommended limit, but the NIH webpage disagrees). So for that I need to take metaformin. And I seriously need to lose weight.

What a lovely way to start out the new year!
