(no subject)

Instead of sharing my mood of frustration, anger, and depression, I think I'll share this rather amusing story one of my colleagues found in the UK press.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=415996&in_page_id=1770

Two policemen dressed as Batman and Robin captured a suspected drugs offender - in a bizarre sting operation.

The Dynamic Duo - Sgt Tony Smith and PC Mike Holman - pulled on the superhero outfits in a bid to unsettle the suspected baddies.

They pretended to be drunks looking for a fancy dress party and knocked on the door of the suspect's home.

... [hijinks ensured]

Sgt Smith added: [snip] "This was my first costumed acting experience.

"The Batman costume was quite comfortable and not too restricting. I still managed to jump over the fence.

"But it was difficult finding somewhere to put my CS spray. There was nowhere for the handcuffs, but then Batman does not need handcuffs."

[my favourite bit]

PC Eames said: "The bad thing about the operation is that we had to endure hours of terrible puns from PC Holman."

Napoleonic gaming

It looks as if I will be hosting a miniature refight of the Napoleonic battle of Fuentes d'Onoro at my place on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. A battlefield and miniture troops will be provided, and refreshments will be laid in for guests. Anyone interested in seeing or participating is welcome to come; just let me know in advance for planning purposes. The rules of the game are not terribly difficult to learn, and there will be enoug experienced players participating that a novice can be given enough troops to command to make the game interesting without it being overwhelming.
